The Drift is a winter race in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming, the largest mountain range in the state. Racers may ski, bike, or run on the snow-covered groomed trail. For 2018, the race will be a 28-mile marathon. This recreation event is authorized under a Special Use Permit with the Bridger Teton National Forest.

Stay tuned for info on 2019’s 100-mile ultra marathon (permit pending), which will be the highest elevation winter ultra marathon in the United States!

2018’s race will be held on March 3. Participants should plan on arriving in Pinedale by Friday evening to be ready for the race Saturday morning. The pre-race meeting will be held at the Sublette County Library‘s Lovatt Room from 6:30-8:00 pm, and is mandatory for all racers. The after-party will be Saturday night at our local brewery, Wind River Brewing Company and we know you won’t want to miss that, so make a weekend out of it! Pinedale has a whole host of family-friendly ways to while away the weekend, so be sure to see what we have to offer!

IMPORTANT! There are a lot of other things going on the week and weekend of this race, so we recommend racers make their hotel reservations sooner rather than later, to guarantee having a place to crash. Click here for lodging options.

Not big on winter? Grab your friends and check out our sister race, the Surly Pika! Both races are part of the annual Wind River Mountain Festival. Both races operate on the Bridger-Teton National Forest under a special use permit authorized by the United States Forest Service. Should you see anyone from the USFS, please shake their hand and tell them “Thank you” for their continued support.
